ABSTRACT
This study aims to examine the use of video tutorials on the effectiveness of
online learning during the pandemic. This research method uses qualitative
research that is library research taken from several journals with data
collection techniques using literature studies, namely reviewing various
written sources in previous research articles. The results of this study
conclude that the use of video tutorials contributes and influences in making
online learning effective during the pandemic which can be applied in one
of the subjects in elementary school, for example, mathematics. The low
level of online learning is due to the low performance of teachers in the
boring learning process and not using creative media.
INTRODUCTION
Learning is a complex process that occurs in everyone throughout his life. The
learning process occurs because of the interaction between a person and his environment.
Therefore, learning can happen anytime and anywhere.(Radha, Mahalakshmi, Kumar, &
Saravanakumar,2020)The implementation of online learning is one of the learning models
carried out during the pandemic, because the principle of education policy during the Covid
19 pandemic is to prioritize the health and safety of students, teachers, families, and society
in general,in order to fulfill educational services during the pandemic.(Orhan & Beyhan,
2020)(Muthuprasad,Aiswarya, Aditya, & Jha,2021)The application of online learning
certainly requires the readiness of various parties, both from the school, office holders, and
the students themselves.(Almusharraf & Khahro, 2020)Online learning can be carried out
using an internet-based interactive model and a Learning Management System (NGO) for
example by using the WhatsApp application.Based on the analysis results, online learning
activities are still low.(Wargadinata,Maimunah, Eva, & Rofiq, 2020) Because the teacher did
not choose the right media or learning strategy. The learning process in this pandemic period,
teachers must be more innovative and creative in choosing learning media so that teaching
and learning activities are effective and efficient. One of them is the use of learning
media.(Riyanto & Yunani, 2020)Learning media can be said as learning aids, namely
everything that can be used to stimulate the thoughts, feelings, attention and abilities or skills
of students so that it can encourage the learning process.During this pandemic, one of the
effective learning media in the learning process is using video tutorials.(Khalil et al.,
2020)The use of video or tutorial media in learning must be able to facilitate students in
achieving learning objectives.(Simamora, 2020)Audio-visual media such as video and

multimedia can be used to assist
students
in learning information and knowledge about a
process or procedure. Medio video tutorials in learning that will be used, whatever their form,
must be able to motivate students to learn the content of information and knowledge
contained in it.(Susilawati & Supriyatno, 2020)In addition to containing accurate information
and knowledge, the learning video media must also be attractive so that it can motivate
students to study in an incentive manner.(Mukhtar, Javed, Arooj, & Sethi, 2020) Based on
the background of the problems described above, the researcher intends to conduct a study
with the title "Effectiveness of Using Video Tutorial Media to Improve Online Learning in a
Pandemic Period.(Yulia, 2020)"The formulation of the problem in this research is How
effective is the use of tutorial media to improve learning during the pandemic? This study
aims to determine the effectiveness of using tutorial media to improve learning during the
pandemic.(Alhabib & Ratiyun, 2021)
METHOD RESEARCH
The research method is a qualitative research that is library research that uses books and
other literatures as the main object (Hadi, 1995: 3). The type of research used is qualitative,
namely research that produces information in the form of notes and descriptive data
contained in the text under study (Mantra, 2008: 30). Some of the sources taken in the
literature study are books and journals. The processes carried out in the literature study are:
1. source collection;
2. analysis;
3. drawing conclusions.
According to Zed (2014), the collection of data obtained is used to obtain new research
data as a first step in preparing a research framework(Eriksson & Dahlblom,2020).The
sample of this research is 5 relevant journal articles. The selection of journal samples was
based on the following criteria:(1) journals that discussed the effectiveness of using video
tutorials as supporters;2)online learning using video tutorials;(3) the application of learning
mathematics using video tutorials improves student achievement.
Data collection techniques in this study used secondary data sources. The data sources are
scientific articles from Google Scholar(Harling et al., 2020).The stages in collecting samples
include:(1)searching for scientific articles on Google Scholar by using the keyword the
effectiveness of using online learning tutorial videos;(2)grouping based on each variable for
further analysis;(3)select as many as 5 scientific articles;(4)preparation for conducting
content analysis for further study(Dahlberg,McKee, Fritzell, Heap, & Lennartsson,
2020).The data analysis technique in the study consisted of three stages, including the
following:
1. Descriptive analysis:an attempt to collect and compile data, then analyze the data
(Surachman, 2000).Various citations of data obtained or the results of previous research
as an illustration to be re-examined.
2. Content analysis:the technique used to draw conclusions through efforts to find the
characteristics of the message and is carried out objectively and systematically (Moleong,
2018). In this case, steps are taken to compare the contents,as well as examine objectively,
systematically, and generally so that new findings will be found that will be used
asconclusions.
3. Critical analysis: more on interpretation because with interpretation we get the inner world,

enter into the text and respond to the meaning behind it (Eriyanto, 2005). Critical analysis
is to determine the value that is believed to be drawing conclusions that have been
interpreted through existing data.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
The results and discussion related to the findings of this study are based on the findings of
several relevant research articles that use the variable of using video tutorials in online learning.
Some of these articles were analyzed and then drawn new conclusions. The following is a
further explanation regarding the results and discussion of the research.
Researchers conducted by Hamdan Husein Batubara and Delila Sari Batubara (2020)
entitled "Using Video Tutorials to Support Online Learning during the Corona Virus
Pandemic". Based on the results of this study, it is stated that the use of video tutorial media
can support online learning during the pandemic. This is because the use of video tutorials can
streamline learning, which can be seen from the increased student achievement. In addition,
learning using video tutorial media can increase motivation and stimulation of learning
activities.
Researchers conducted by Agus Riyanto and Eva Greece (2020) entitled "The
Effectiveness Of Video As A Tutorial Learning Media In Muhadhoroh Subject". Based on this
research, the use of video tutorial media can streamline online learning during this pandemic.
This can be seen from the results of the classical percentage. This study uses a survey research
method with a quantitative approach and the sample comes from students and data collection
techniques using observation and questionnaires which aim to get an overview of the
effectiveness of using video tutorials in online learning.
Researchers conducted by Ridha, Firman, Desyandri (2021) entitled "The Effectiveness of
Using Video Media in Integrated Thematic Learning in Elementary Schools During the Covid-
19 Pandemic". Based on this research, it is stated that the use of video media in integrated
thematic learning, especially in elementary schools during the Covid-19 pandemic, is very
effective. This can be proven by increasing students' learning motivation and students
understand the material better. Video media also stimulates students to be interested in learning
activities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The researcher conducted by Muhamad Wilfadz (2020) entitled "Effectiveness of Using
Video Tutorials as a Distance Learning Media". Based on the results of this study, the use of
video tutorials as a medium of distance learning (online learning) is very effective. This is
evidenced by the increased motivation and student achievement. Basically the use of video
tutorials is an utilization of the results of learning technology according to the times with efforts
to improve the quality of education. Especially in modern times with the use of access to
technology that can be used from anywhere and anytime. So that video tutorials can be an
efficient choice in the use of distance learning media (drinking online) during this pandemic.
Researchers conducted by Ilham Baharuddin (2014) entitled "Effectiveness of Using
Video Tutorial Media as Supporting Mathematics Learning on Students' Interests and Learning
Outcomes". Based on the research, it is said that the use of video tutorial media can make
mathematics learning effective. The research design was carried out using a pret test and a post
test with the type of experimental research. This is also supported by descriptive statistical
analysis. Thus, the use of video tutorial media is applied contributively to make mathematics
learning effective.
Based on 5 relevant research results, it can be concluded that the use of video tutorials to
improve online learning during this pandemic is very effective, so it can be used as a solution

and applied in the learning process so that students' motivation and learning achievement
increases, one of which is mathematics.
CONCLUSION
Based on the results of several previous studies from several journals that have been
reviewed with relevant research, the use of video tutorials can make online learning effective
during a pandemic. This is because the use of video tutorials can attract students' attention,
interest, and achievement because video tutorials can add media images, audio, text, and
animation so that the presentation of the material is more effective and students understand
clearly.Suggestions for further research are expected to be able to develop the use of video
tutorials as a more interesting learning media, so that the online learning process during this
pandemic can be effective.
